The Lee County Council on Aging (LCCOA), located at 100 W 2nd Street in Dixon, is a non-profit organization that functions as the sole senior center for Lee County. Established in 1974, its mission is to provide a comprehensive array of programs and services that help senior citizens and individuals with disabilities live active, healthy, and independent lives. The facility also serves as the area’s designated Aging and Disabled Resource Center (ADRC).
A cornerstone of the LCCOA’s offerings is its robust transportation service. As a provider for the Lee-Ogle Transportation System (LOTS), the center schedules and provides dedicated, lift-equipped transportation for medical appointments, shopping, and social outings throughout the county. The center also focuses heavily on nutrition, offering on-site lunches five days a week, take-home meals, and access to fresh produce through a community garden and farmer’s market voucher program.
The council provides extensive support services. As a certified Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) site, it offers free, unbiased counseling for Medicare and other health insurance options. Staff also assist clients with applications for numerous benefit programs, including license plate discounts, tax assessment freezes, Medicaid, and SNAP. A wide variety of social and wellness activities are available, ranging from exercise classes like chair yoga and Bingocize to social games, card groups, and educational workshops.
The Lee County Council on Aging is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, the center can be reached at +1 815-288-9236.
